On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on
Obergefell v. Hodges, one of four cases they agreed to hear on the civil rights issue of same-sex
marriage. In their split 5-4 decision, the court announced that our Constitution
guarantees the right of marriage to all Americans, effectively legalizing
same-sex marriage across the entire country. The ruling was cause for
celebration in the LGBT community and was hailed by President Obama as
a "victory for America."
